March 28, 2014 - The City of Knoxville's State Street Recycling Center and Goodwill Attended Donation Center will close on Friday, April 18, due to private redevelopment of the property, which is adjacent to the State Street Garage.
Both the recycling center and the Goodwill donation center will relocate to a new site in a parking lot in the 200 block of Willow Avenue in the Old City. People can continue to donate items to Goodwill Industries at the new site, as well as place cardboard, mixed paper, newspaper, plastics, glass, and steel and aluminum cans into containers for collecting recyclables.
The new recycling center is expected to be open on Saturday, April 19.
The State Street site is closing because of the Marble Alley Lofts redevelopment. The project calls for more than 200 apartment units bounded by Central and State streets and Commerce and Union avenues.
City Council earlier this month approved a $650,000 capital project for Marble Alley Streetscape and State Street improvements.
