December 4, 2014 - City of Knoxville crews tonight will be making a temporary repair to a short section of Cumberland Avenue, which will reduce eastbound traffic from two lanes to a single lane.
The work - placing steel plates across a depression in the street - is scheduled form 7 p.m. to midnight tonight on a section of Cumberland between Metron Way/University Commons Way and West Volunteer Boulevard, which runs beneath the railroad tracks.
Westbound traffic will not be affected.
Several weeks ago, a stormwater pipe beneath Cumberland Avenue collapsed, causing a 2-inch depression in the road. Adding the steel plates is a temporary repair.
Eastbound traffic will be moved to a westbound turn lane for the through movement, so there will be no westbound turn lane while the work is being done. Also, one northbound left turn lane on Volunteer Boulevard will be closed.
