Starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, City of Knoxville crews will be making a temporary repair to a short section of Cumberland Avenue, which will reduce eastbound traffic from two lanes to a single lane.
The work had to be rescheduled from last week due to a KUB repair to the natural gas distribution system in the same area.
The City's repair project - placing steel plates across a depression in the street - is scheduled from 7 p.m. to midnight on Wednesday on a section of Cumberland between Metron Way/University Commons Way and West Volunteer Boulevard, which runs beneath the railroad tracks.
Westbound traffic will not be affected.
Last month, a stormwater pipe beneath Cumberland Avenue collapsed, causing a 2-inch depression in the road. Adding the steel plates is a temporary repair.
Eastbound traffic will be moved to a westbound turn lane for the through movement, so there will be no westbound turn lane while the work is being done. Also, one northbound left turn lane on Volunteer Boulevard will be closed.
