The City of Knoxville now has 18 FLOCK cameras strategically placed throughout the City, and they are proving to be a valuable tool for law enforcement.
In less than one year’s time the City’s FLOCK cameras, which have license plate reader technology, have helped KPD:
• Make 120 arrests
• Seize more than $1 M in stolen property
• Recover 97 vehicles
• And, get an additional 14 firearms off the streets.
On top of this, the cameras have also helped in locating at least one missing person.
On January 11, 2022, KPD officers were able to track down a missing 85-year-old man, who reportedly had dementia, after running a search for the man’s truck through the license plate reader system.
Knoxville Police Chief Eve Thomas has praised the effectiveness of cameras saying, “This incident showcases how license plate reader technology enhances the public safety capabilities of our department. By having this technology at our disposal, we were not only able to quickly and safely locate a missing and endangered resident, but we were able to do so as efficiently as possible.”
