Sustainability Champions Acknowledged for Citywide Efforts
April 1 marks the beginning of Earth Month, a perfect time to shine the spotlight City employees moving the needle on the City’s sustainability efforts. “Without these folks, and many more, the City would not have the success at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and saving operational costs as it has over the last decade,” says Office of Sustainability Director Brian Blackmon.
To attempt a metaphor: if the Office of Sustainability is the hub of the policy, research, and project management wheel, many individuals in numerous City departments are the spokes, connecting data and the goals to where the rubber meets the road.
This month, we’re profiling three exceptional employees who have been integral to the City’s sustainability achievements. Click the buttons below to learn more about their talents and accomplishments
Buildings: John Bailey, Skilled Trade Craftsman, Facility Services

KFD’s Lead Chaplain since 2005, Capt. Trumpore goes out on every residential fire call – about 30 since last summer. “I was promoted to Captain in 2008,” he says. “But my best promotion was when I became Chaplain.”
Find out why this ordained minister is so passionate about his role at KFD.

This new addition to the City of Knoxville is no stranger around town. In fact, she has lived in Knoxville for 41 years.
One of her favorite memories is more like a dream come true for many—riding in a hot air balloon in Africa over the Serengeti.
She taught middle school for 13 years, and she also owned 3 flourishing Knoxville businesses.
Can you guess this month’s Who Can It Be Now?
