Get Ready for the Business Opportunities Breakfast

Posted: 05/24/2023
Business Opportunity BreakfastPurchasing's Small Business and Diversity Outreach team is gearing up for the 14th annual Business Opportunities Breakfast on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at the Jacob Building at Chilhowee Park.

You may have already circled this date on your calendar because you’ll be attending as a representative of a department that will purchase products and services during the next fiscal year. Now is a great time to make sure you have all the materials you’ll need for your table and presentations at the breakfast, like business cards.

How can all of us help make this Business Opportunities the best one yet?

RSVP and share on Facebook. Invite small business owners and entrepreneurs who could benefit from knowing how City departments and partners like KUB, KCDC, UT and others plan to spend millions of dollars on products and services in the next 12-18 months.

Preregister online, even if you’re a City employee. If you plan to eat breakfast (and it’s always so good), please register so the caterer can accurately estimate how much to prepare.

Print out the event flyer and share it at your church, neighborhood or networking events. Or drop it off at local businesses you support, like the company that did a great job paving your driveway or painting your house. Letting them know about this opportunity to connect with the City as a potential client may help them grow their business.

Think about your department’s purchasing plans and goals for the next fiscal year. Because we don’t have to put out an RFP for purchases under $12,500, those of us who make purchases have a lot of flexibility in our decision-making process. P-card holders, requisitioners and account techs are encouraged to increase the amount of purchasing they do with local businesses as well as diversity business enterprises or DBEs. These include small businesses and those owned by women, minorities and military veterans. Every year, Purchasing recognizes the City departments and employees who help the City reach its goals.
