The chill in the air and the swirling of leaves is a good reminder that leaf season is officially here! Public Service Department crews will soon be visiting neighborhoods to vacuum residents’ leaf piles.
You are asked to rake leaves into rows parallel to the street, away from vehicles, power poles and mailboxes to facilitate swift removal. Be sure not to block access to sidewalks and other public infrastructure.
Leaf pickup will last through February, and during this period, the normal two-week brush schedule is suspended so that Public Service Department resources can concentrate on collecting leaves throughout our community.
For more information, including a leaf pickup schedule, go to

Keep in mind, leaves are collected separately from garbage and recycled into mulch, so they should not be bagged. Last season, the City of Knoxville collected more than 7,000 tons of leaves that were processed for mulch and diverted from the landfill.
