City Employees Give Back All Year Round
Christmas is widely celebrated as the season of giving. It’s a time when the spirit of generosity permeates our community.
Last month, we were pleased to share the experiences of several City colleagues who volunteer. We heard from several who have volunteered to build fences for ChainFree Knoxville. These City employees exemplify the spirit of Christmas in their year-round dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others. Our time and energy are precious – it’s hopeful and inspiring to share these additional stories of giving back to the causes and the communities they value.

Increasing the Health and Safety of Knoxvillians
The presents have arrived early for some people in Knoxville, as the City rolled out several new programs and initiatives last month aimed at increasing the health and safety of the people who live here.
From donating a fire truck to an area high school to creating a “safe exchange zone” for purchases and online exchanges----the City is always looking for ways to improve your quality of life.

City Employees: Santa’s Hardest-working Elves!
City employees are maybe the biggest holiday revelers anywhere. We help make Christmas in the City sparkle!
Did you know that City Public Service Department workers, police officers, firefighters, Transportation Engineering staff and Special Events coordinators collectively put in roughly 5,000 hours to make the holidays bright and festive for Knoxville's families?
That’s a big #KnoxvilleJobWellDone!
Public Service crews set the holiday mood - and they start plenty early. With more than 250,000 individual holiday lights to be hung, a huge tree to erect, and an ice rink to be constructed, their Christmas in the City tasks begin in October.
But Public Service isn’t alone. Hosting an estimated 20,000 visitors for Regal Celebration of Lights - and 40,000 for the WIVK Christmas Parade - requires all City hands on deck. It’s a team effort.
