The Knoxville Fire Department graduated its first class of recruits in two years on Jan. 12, 2024, at the stately Alumni Memorial Building on UT's campus.
Mayor Indya Kincannon and new City Court Judge Tyler Caviness were among the large crowd of enthusiastic firefighters, family members, friends and City officials who celebrated with and welcomed the City's newest 28 firefighters.
"You worked hard to get here," Mayor Kincannon told the graduates. "We're very proud of you."
While most of the recruits come from right here in Knoxville, there are a handful from surrounding Tennessee cities, along with one recruit from California.
17 of the recruits are still in EMT school, which includes 540 training hours.
Congratulations and welcome to the City of Knoxville family!
