Urban Forest Master Plan Moves into Implementation Phase
What happens after you eat, breathe and think nothing but “tree canopy” for more than five months? You take a moment to celebrate a #KnoxvilleJobWellDone with coffee and doughnuts in a City park.
City Urban Forester Kasey Krouse and Mayor Indya Kincannon joined many creators of the Knoxville Urban Forest Master Plan gathered on March 21 at Dr. Walter Hardy Park to mark the end of one stage and beginning of the next.
The UFMP is complete, and now is the time to start implementing the strategies identified by the plan.
Members of an implementation team have been identified, and some of their first goals will be to set measurable benchmarks; continue to build relationships and recruit partners; and identify leads for the 42 action steps outlined in the plan.

City Releases Updated Housing Strategy
After several months of meetings, stakeholder discussions and a City Council workshop, Mayor Kincannon and other City leaders released an updated Housing Strategy.
The strategy lays out the housing challenges in Knoxville and the Administration’s plans to utilize multiple tools to support the development of 6,000 to 8,000 new housing units by 2029.
As you may already know, the City has invested more than $40 million in the development of affordable housing since 2020, leveraging an additional $600 million in public and private investments. The result is more than 2,300 new units of affordable housing being built or in the process of development at this date.

This month’s mystery employee is the human equivalent of a railroad switchyard.
Or maybe one of those traffic conductors in the center of a busy intersection -- no white gloves or whistle required.
Rather, her instruments of choice are a welcoming smile and an easy laugh.
This employee has been at the center of operations for six years and lived in East Tennessee her entire life.
Can you guess the identity of your colleague who was once invited to work for Vice President Al Gore?

Happy anniversary to employees hired in the month of March!
Congratulations to the individuals and departments that recently won awards and KUDOS.
