The goal of the North Central Street project is to improve the multi-modal function of the street, making it friendly to pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, as well as vehicles. There were several plans that highlighted the need for changes to North Central Street, copies of those plans are available
HERE .
The City’s project includes replacing deteriorating storm water lines, repairing and replacing damaged sidewalks, installing new bulb outs to define on street parking and provide areas for landscape, better-marked bike lanes, resurfacing the street, and creating a linear park near Baxter Avenue. The area impacted runs from Depot Avenue on the south end of the project through the intersection at Broadway and north to Woodland Avenue, approximately 1.1 miles. The project started in January of 2018 and is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2019.
Prior to the City’s construction, Knoxville’s Utilities Board (KUB), replaced more than 8,000 linear feet of water main and 26 fire hydrants. The completion of the $1.85 million project occurred in August of 2017 -
