May is Older Americans Month, and the fearless leaders of our Senior Centers have proven yet again that they know how to show our community's most venerable residents a good time.
On May 1, 2024, City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation Director Sheryl Ely presented a proclamation from Mayor Indya Kincannon for Older Americans Month that included the statement:
"WHEREAS: Our community benefits tremendously when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds have the opportunity to participate and live independently."
So true!
Senior Center Directors Pamela Mitchell (Larry Cox) and Lisa Wilson (South Knoxville) began the month's series of activities with Olympics-themed games.
Field trips included visits to the Tennessee Theatre for Mighty Musical Monday, Pigeon Forge, McClung Museum, Knoxville Museum of Art and the Dogwood Gallery.
And then there was the Senior Prom.
The afternoon began casually, with convivial conversations and refreshments.
But after lunch, the DJ started playing tunes. Dancing and photos ensued.
Thanks to everyone who participated in Senior Prom and Oak Street Health for helping make it possible!
