Tuition Reimbursement: Invest in Your Future

Did you know that the City offers a Tuition Reimbursement program? That's right, you can receive financial assistance for courses directly related to your current role or future career aspirations within the City. In the last fiscal year, 19 employees benefited from this fantastic program.

Here's how it works:

• Pre-approve your courses through the Tuition Reimbursement Form
• Successfully complete the approved courses
• Submit the required documentation for final approval
• Receive reimbursement of up to $3,000 per fiscal year for degree-seeking courses
• Receive reimbursement of up to $1,000 per fiscal year for certifications or licenses

Educational Attainment Incentives/Celebrate Your Achievements:

The City recognizes and rewards your academic accomplishments through the Educational Development Incentive Pay.

After completing your initial probationary period, you may be eligible for a one-time incentive pay upon earning your first associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree while employed with the City.

• Master's Degree: $3,000
• Bachelor's Degree: $2,500
• Associate's Degree: $1,000

Public Service Loan Forgiveness: Ease Your Financial Burden

As an eligible employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program, the City of Knoxville can help you achieve loan forgiveness for your remaining Direct Loan balance. To qualify, you must make 120 qualifying monthly payments under an accepted repayment plan while working full-time for the City.

Recent Federal Announcements and Updates

The Biden-Harris Administration has recently announced the forgiveness of $7.4 billion in student loans for 277,000 people, including those enrolled in the SAVE Plan, those affected by loan servicer errors, and those working in public service jobs.

Additionally, new plans are underway to deliver further debt relief, such as stopping interest accumulation, automatic loan forgiveness for qualified individuals, and assistance for those facing repayment difficulties.
