Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) teaches participants about hazards that could affect our community, how to prepare for them and how to help your family, neighbors, or coworkers in the immediate aftermath of an emergency, before responders arrive.

CERT is a nationally supported initiative hosted by the Knoxville-Knox County Emergency Management Agency (KEMA) in partnership with local emergency response agencies. The Knox County CERT program is focused on personal preparedness training for disasters and connecting people with local volunteer agencies for response opportunities.

CERT is free to community members and offered in both a hybrid, self-paced format and an in-person format. The next all in-person series will take place Fall, 2025.

1. 12 hours of online, self-paced curriculum
2. 4 hours of scheduled online discussion
3. 8 hours of scheduled in-person instruction
4. Optional CPR training

The Hybrid Course Includes

In-person instruction will happen 2 times each year (Spring and Fall) with the next session on September 28, 2024.

• Spring training will be held in East Knox County, on a Saturday at the end of April or beginning of May

• Fall training will be held in West Knox County on a non-football Saturday in September or October

Training covers skills such as disaster preparedness, fire safety, light search and rescue, disaster medical operations, and others.
