There's now a safe path for pedestrians and cyclists to use to get from North Knoxville into Fountain City.
The nearly $3 million Old Broadway Sidewalk Project connected existing sidewalks and new sidewalks with an old roadbed across a railroad track to create a brand new way for residents to navigate a safe path along the N. Broadway route.
The project addresses north-south connectivity as well as accessibility and safety concerns for all road users.
A newly installed mechanism at the intersection of Mineral Springs and N. Broadway allows pedestrians to request a WALK signal, and makes a path for pedestrians safer where Old Broadway intersects with N. Broadway under the railroad bridge.
This project has helped the City move forward on our Vision Zero goals to improve infrastructure for all road users and work to end death on local roadways by 2040.
Vision Zero Coordinator Cody Gentry has done several interviews with local press in recent weeks about
the Old Broadway sidewalk project, as well as
federal grant funds going to improve Chapman Highway and
a quick-build project at Sutherland Avenue.
