Everyone knows the main theme of the classic Christmas film
It’s a Wonderful Life:
Don’t let Uncle Billy take the money to the bank.
Actually, the film is a reminder to be grateful for family and community -- even during hard times.
Kevin DuBose has that gratitude part down pat.
Our Director of Housing and Neighborhood Development could easily talk Bedford Falls residents into keeping their money in the Savings and Loan. Just as their accounts support the loans that give their neighbors safe and cozy homes, the City’s investments in affordable housing are helping our community weather a nationwide affordable housing crisis.
The City has invested local and federal funds -- to the tune of $34 million and 4,511 units -- since 2019.
DuBose and his department are focused on achieving four main goals throughout the year and into 2025:
• Keep people housed
• Encourage more housing development
• Transform blighted properties
• Promote equity
In George Bailey’s alternative reality, evil slumlord Mr. Potter makes housing expensive and home ownership impossible.
DuBose’s vision for our city involves public and private investments to build enough housing at all price points to serve everyone who wants to call Knoxville home.
