Posted: 01/31/2025
KFD Steamer EngineWe are excited to announce the return of the historic Knoxville Fire Department (KFD) Steamer, now back on display after being carefully preserved following a 2022 collision at the museum.

This iconic piece of our city’s firefighting heritage has been fully restored and is ready for the community to enjoy once again. For those who see it regularly, you’ll understand just how much this artifact means to Knoxville, reflecting the pride and dedication KFD team members have displayed for decades.

A Glimpse into the Past

Dating back to the era of horse-drawn equipment, the KFD steamer stands as a testament to early firefighting innovation and our shared legacy of public service. Its restoration reminds us of the rich history that shaped today’s Knoxville Fire Department and honors those who have protected our city in years gone by.

Back Where It Belongs

Now on display at the Fire Museum located at the new Public Safety Complex on Huron Street, this significant and nostalgic symbol is ready to inspire new generations. Thanks to a dedicated restoration effort, visitors can now admire the steamer up close. By showcasing Knoxville’s firefighting journey from the days of steam power to modern, high-tech equipment. The Fire Museum pays tribute to the brave men and women who have served our city.

We encourage all City employees to visit the museum, connect with our firefighting history, and carry on the legacy of those who came before us. Together, let’s uphold the proud tradition of the Knoxville Fire Department and celebrate the spirit of service that binds us all.
