City Parks and Recreation will host the 11th Annual Teen Step Show Saturday, March 5, at 6 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium.
Teens from Tennessee and surrounding states will bring their best moves, as nine step teams take the stage to compete for cash prizes – awarded for both performance on stage and performance academically.
“We have always felt it is important to give teens structured programs and avenues to spend their energy in a positive way,” said Nikki Crutcher, Recreation Superintendent with Knoxville Parks and Recreation. “The show is high energy, very entertaining, and always family friendly.”
Tickets to the show are $10. To order tickets in advance call the Civic Auditorium at 865-656-4444 or visit www.knoxvillecoliseum.com.
The competition, sponsored by HOT 104.5, is not only a way to get area teens involved in fitness activities and friendly competition, but also drives students toward higher education. The morning before the show, team members receive a tour of the University of Tennessee and eat lunch on campus.
“Performing on a step team also teaches teens discipline, team unity, and the importance of hard work,” Crutcher said. “These kids practice just as much as any traditional sports team and our Step Show gives them a platform to showcase their hard work.”
Interest in the competition has continued to grow since the first show 11 years ago. About 2,000 attendees are expected this year with teams from Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida and Missouri competing.
“We have people of all ages come and enjoy the show each year,” Crutcher added. “It’s a show you won’t want to miss!”
