On May 26 at 5:30 p.m., Bill Lyons, Deputy to the Mayor and Chief Policy Officer for the City, along with other City staff, will present updates to the City’s downtown parking strategy. The public meeting will be held at the East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay St.

The pending installation of new parking meters across downtown, combined with growing demand for parking from residents, employees and visitors, has created the need for a comprehensive look at the management of public parking both on-street and in garages. This includes the addition of new parking technology, with meters that can accept credit cards and track actual use; a standardization of meter rates and hours; a strategy for fair and consistent enforcement; and a range of monthly rate options in City-owned garages.
