Mayor Madeline Rogero, City Council, City officials and representatives from the Aslan Foundation will cut the ribbon for the new Fort Dickerson Gateway on Wednesday, May 3 at 11 a.m. at 3000 Fort Dickerson Road (intersection of Chapman Highway and Woodlawn Pike).
The Aslan Foundation invested $1.65 million to purchase property (a former car repair shop) and to cover design and construction costs.
The new gateway includes a two-story stone veneer wall, 15-foot stone pillars framing the entrance, a grassy lawn surrounded by a circular stone seat wall, a covered KAT bus stop, and accessible sidewalks leading into the park.
The Fort Dickerson Gateway project complements the $1.4 million Fort Dickerson Road Realignment Project that the City completed last year, which gave the park’s Chapman Highway entrance a much-needed traffic light, crosswalks, accessible sidewalk upgrades, and an improved park entry road.
To attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Fort Dickerson Gateway via Knoxville Area Transit, take the KAT Route 41 bus.
