KPD Lt. Evans Selected as 2018 KPD Officer of the Year

Posted: 04/01/2019
Chief Thomas, Lt. Evans, Mayor RogeroFor his dedication to the citizens of Knoxville and its visitors, Lt. Brian Evans was selected as the 2018 KPD Officer of the Year on Monday, April, 2019 at the Knoxville Police Department Recognition Luncheon.

Lt. Evans is assigned as The Traffic Services Coordinator, a position that has him working with several different facets of our community. He is responsible for developing traffic plans for events such as local construction projects, city sponsored events (marathons, parades, etc.), and University of Tennessee football games. These traffic plans involve assigning officers, implementing the plan, and supervising the event.

During this past year, some of the events that Lt. Evans has planned for include the Knoxville Marathon, USA Cycling, Veterans Day Parade, WIVK Christmas Parade, seven U.T. football games, and a Vice Presidential visit. These events drew a large number of visitors to the city, and several required staffing of more than 100 officers.

Large events that draw visitors from around the country require high-level planning skills and knowledge of traffic control, in order to provide a safe environment for our visitors. Lt. Evans demonstrates superior planning skills each time he oversees one of these events.

On a recent visit by Vice President Pence in September, Lt. Evans was tasked with planning the motorcade route and deployment of the officers for the Vice President’s visit. Lt. Evans spent countless hours of critical planning and coordinating with the Vice President’s advance security team, to assure the safety of the Vice President.  Lt. Evans’ flawless plan ensured a smooth, uneventful motorcade route for Vice President Pence and his team.
