The Knoxville Fire Department (KFD) will staff five EMS booths this year during Boomsday.

Locations for EMS booths will be along Neyland Drive, the first, nearest Thompson Boling Arena, two more between there and the Norfolk Southern railroad bridge, another between the railroad bridge and Henley St. bridge, and the fifth being nearest Calhoun's Restaurant at River Walk. KFD will also have EMS mobile bike units patrolling the area.

A fireboat suppression team will be monitoring the firework fall out zone from the river nearest the railroad bridge. This unit will also be wetting down the kudzu, which covers the South bank of the Tennessee River prior to ignition of the first firework. A second and final flame retardant coating will be applied to the railroad bridge Sunday morning, and Fire Inspectors will be monitoring the event.

Mortars will be fired every hour starting at noon and continue until 9:00 p.m.

The firework display will begin at 9:30 p.m. lasting until 10:00 p.m.

TIPS FOR SPECTATORS

Wear cool comfortable clothing with enclosed toe shoes with rubber traction (tennis shoes). EMS personnel address multiple medical calls every year that might have been prevented with the proper foot covering.

Protect young children's hearing with ear plugs or double muffs.

Protect your eyes from firework fall out that may travel out of the intended fall out range.

If inclement weather prevails, shelter for pedestrians can be found in the parking garages at the City County Building, or G-10 near Thompson Boling Arena.

Please leave animals at home, they become frightened and can bite unexpectedly.

ITEMS NOT ALLOWED

Backpacks, coolers, cans, bottles, outside food or beverages, pets, skateboards, bicycles, tents, umbrellas, firearms, weapons, laser pointers, alcohol, and no soliciting.

FACTS

The Knoxville Fire Department will normally answer 25 – 30 medical calls each year from spectators, ranging from heart attacks to blistered feet.
