Stan Sharp was sworn in as the 17th Fire Chief of the City of Knoxville Fire Department on September 1, 2009. He began his career with the Knoxville Fire Department when he entered KFD’s Recruit Academy in May of 1996.
Chief Sharp worked in KFD’s Firefighting Division for approximately 10 years, including service as Captain of an engine company for 3 years. He has served KFD as a Training Officer, Planning Officer, as well as Safety and Communications Officer.
Professional affiliations include: East Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association, Tennessee Fire Chiefs Association, International Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Fire Department Safety Officers Association. Chief Sharp serves on the Board of Directors for both the Knoxville Public Safety Foundation and the Knox County Emergency Communications District. He is a graduate of the 2011 FBI Citizens Academy, the 2011/2012 CAC Community Leadership Class, and the 2014 Leadership Knoxville Class.
Chief Sharp attended the University of TN where he earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. While at the University, he worked as both a graduate teaching assistant and graduate research assistant.
