Crews to Clean Fort Sanders Neighborhood Streets Dec. 15, 18

City crews will be thoroughly cleaning the streets of Fort Sanders and removing leaves and trash from hard-to-reach crevices, corners and drain grates. Burlington decades ago was a robust residential neighborhood with a uniquely distinct commercial district. It still boasts Lema’s World Famous Chittlins and Speedway Circle, once a Cal Johnson racetrack. But at one time, it was home to a 278-seat movie theater, built the same year as downtown’s Tennessee Theatre. Iconic anchors used to include Ruby’s Coffee Shop and Greenlee’s Drugstore. They’re gone, but Barnes Barber Shop, the Lunch House and Lema’s are timeless stalwarts. Council Approves $200K in Grants for At-Risk Youth

Knoxville Welcomes Back USA Cycling Pro Races June 17-20

Want to see hundreds of the country’s top professional cyclists, including U.S. Olympic Team athletes? The USA Cycling Professional Road National Championships will return to the Knoxville area for the fourth time June 17-20. A total of six events will determine national champions, winners of the coveted Stars-and-Stripes jerseys. The racing kicks off at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, with the Individual Time Trial National Championships at Melton Lake in Oak Ridge. Riders will go off in minute intervals as they compete against the clock on a hilly time trial course. Read More
