Due to severe weather predicted for Friday night and Saturday, the large commercial crane located in the 800 block of Gay Street will be laid completely flat from roughly 7 p.m. Friday to around 3 p.m. Saturday, or when the line of severe weather clears the area.
As a result, on-street parking will be removed from the 700 block of Gay Street from 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, through 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11.
The crane was installed and began work on the top levels of the First Horizon Bank building on Friday, Nov. 19. This week, the City’s Traffic Engineering Department approved Rule Construction’s request to extend the closure of the 800 block through Dec. 30, rather than Dec. 12.
The 700 and 800 blocks of Gay Street will be completely closed between Tuesday, Dec. 28 and Thursday, Dec. 30, for the crane’s disassembly and removal. The closure at that time will include the intersections with Cumberland Avenue, Main Street and Church Street.
Access remains open to businesses in the 700 and 800 blocks.
Downtown drivers should plan ahead to identify alternate routes or allow time to navigate the detours in place.
