Sidewalk Study Draft

KNOXVILLE SIDEWALK STUDY

The purpose of the Knoxville Sidewalk Study is to provide a clear direction for sidewalk infrastructure in the City of Knoxville, ensuring that residents and visitors are able to walk or use a mobility device in a safe and comfortable manner. To this end, the study includes a comprehensive inventory of the existing sidewalk network, an inclusive public and stakeholder outreach and engagement effort, and a deliberate analysis of priorities.

The study establishes a framework that can inform sidewalk investment in the city going forward and help the city identify both short- and long-term investment priorities.

PROJECT ARCHIVES

SIDEWALKS, ROADWAY CROSSING REQUESTS

In June 2019, the City hosted a series of six public meeting open house workshops to gather feedback and introduce the goals of a 10-month sidewalk system study. Members of the public were asked to share their ideas on where Knoxville’s future sidewalks should go and identify barriers to pedestrian travel. In addition, an online survey and mapping tool was used to gather comments and suggestions from those who could not attend the meetings.

Over 600 requests were made for sidewalks and roadway crossing improvements. These requests are shown in the map PDF below.

All City residents and any persons concerned with pedestrian safety in Knoxville are encouraged to attend the upcoming meetings and share their ideas.
