Mayor Bill Haslam announced today that Amy Nolan will join his team as Communications Coordinator.
Nolan is currently a business writer and columnist with the News Sentinel. As Communications Coordinator, Nolan will be responsible for internal and external communications, and she will serve as spokesperson for the Haslam administration.
This position is in the Department of Communications and Government Relations; Margie Nichols, Senior Director. Nolan will begin her new position in the next few weeks. "I'm excited to be getting someone of Amy's experience and knowledge to join us," said Mayor Haslam.
"I know she'll be a real asset and will serve the citizens of Knoxville well." "I'm pleased to be joining Mayor Haslam and his team at this exciting time in Knoxville's history," said Nolan. "Working at the News Sentinel has been a great experience both personally and professionally. I've watched the newspaper grow and I've been able to grow with it; and I take with me a great education."
Nolan is an award-winning journalist and veteran editor with the News Sentinel, where she excelled in a variety of assignments in her 18-year career. She produced stories about the Knoxville economy, growth and development and the region's business.
She also served as the newspaper's business editor, participating in the expansion of the Business news section from a twice weekly to a daily product, and as its state editor, coordinating news coverage from five bureaus in the Knoxville metro area and the state capital.
She joined the newspaper in 1985 upon graduation from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in journalism. Her work has been honored by the national Society of Professional Journalists, Tennessee Press Association, Tennessee Associated Press Managing Editors, East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists and the E.W. Scripps Co., parent company of the News Sentinel.
