FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT
The City of Knoxville participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This program helps communities reduce flood risk and allows property owners to qualify for lower flood insurance rates.
To participate, the City must identify, manage, and protect flood-prone areas to reduce flooding impacts on people and property.
FLOOD INSURANCE DISCOUNTS
NFIP communities can be rated through FEMA’s Community Rating System (CRS). Higher participation and stricter standards result in discounts on flood insurance.
- Knoxville’s current CRS Class: Class 6
- Flood insurance discount: 20%
