America Recycles Day in Downtown Knoxville

Posted: 11/12/2008
The City of Knoxville's Solid Waste Office is partnering with several local groups to support America Recycles Day in downtown Knoxville this Friday.

Knoxville's America Recycles Day event is set for 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., on November 14, in Market Square and features a wealth of information about recycling opportunities as well as some cool door prizes.

The participating organizations - including the City of Knoxville, Knox County, ALCOA, the Knoxville Recycling Coalition, Keep Knoxville Beautiful, the University of Tennessee, Green Mountain Coffee and Waste Connections - will provide helpful information about the many ways people can start recycling, the part each organization plays in recycling and why it's worthwhile to recycle.

The latest edition of the Knoxville Recycling Coalition's Recycling Guide, an excellent free resource on local recycling opportunities, will be available at the America Recycles Day event.

There will also be opportunities to obtain a new recycling bin by signing a pledge card signifying your commitment to recycle more at home and work and visitors can enter to win door prizes including compost bins and rain barrels. The sponsors hope that by working together we can all make Knoxville a city known for its recycling.

This is the 11th America Recycles Day and through it the National Recycling Council seeks to encourage Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products and to raise awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of recycling.
