Youth Disc Golf Course Opens at Inskip Park

Posted: 05/19/2014
May 19, 2014 - City officials today formally opened a new youth disc golf course at Inskip Park, 4204 Bruhin Road. The course was designed for ages 8 to 12 to try out the sport and gain skills, but it is open to all ages and skill levels.

The course includes nine baskets with two tee pads per basket, giving various skill level options and doubling the course length. The Parks and Recreation Department was approached by the Knoxville Disc Golf Association last year about the need for a course geared for younger players.

"When the Knoxville Disc Golf Association approached the City about this project, we saw it as an opportunity to both enhance Inskip Park and to offer a new sport that might appeal to youth who are less interested in traditional sports," said Joe Walsh, the City's Director of Parks and Recreation.

The course was designed by Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon, Inc., and construction was led by the CAC AmeriCorps Conservation Crew with assistance from the City's Public Service Department.

The total cost of the project was about $17,000. The course is free to use and open to the public during regular park hours.
