How often do you think phishing emails or spam emails are sent to your email address?

Chances are your City email has been targeted. In fact, nearly 400,000 suspicious emails have been flagged to City accounts in just one month!

How do we know this? Well, last year the City installed a new email filtering software called Proofpoint.

In the month of January, we received more than 750,000 emails to our domain. Proofpoint didn't deliver nearly 400,000 of these because they fell into various categories that are not allowed.

Most of these were SPAM/Bulk emails, but many were malicious.

Breaking it down further: In just a 14 day period—Proofpoint blocked:

66 imposter (Hey, I am the Mayor, get me a gift card) emails
24 ransomware emails
1010 phishing emails

Again, chances are your account was targeted and you never knew because of this software.

Bottom line, Proofpoint is a very valuable tool to keep our City IT infrastructure protected from threats, but you still need to be vigilant.
