HISTORY OF THE PARK
William Caswell donated land to the city in East Knoxville for construction of a public park, including a ballfield which became Caswell Park in 1916. Caswell was a longtime fan of the game, having participated in what may have been the first game of baseball played in Tennessee – an 1865 contest between the Holstons and the Knoxvilles. The Sam Anderson Pavilion honors the service of former Parks & Recreation Director.
