Directions: From I-40, take the 17th St. exit; head south on 17th St.; turn left onto Highland Ave.; after two blocks, turn right onto James Agee St.; park is one block on right at the corner of Laurel Ave. and James Agee St.
James Agee Park is an enchanting block of nature in the middle of the Fort Sanders and the University of Tennessee area. Large magnolia trees tower over the park's garden and walking trail, which includes an arbor. Beautiful stone and iron work grace the entrances.
HISTORY OF THE PARK
The park was dedicated in 2003 honoring James Agee, a Knoxville native and American novelist, screenwriter, journalist, poet, and film critic. The southeastern entrance to the park displays one of Agee's most poignant quotes:
"To those who in all times have sought truth and who have told it in their art or in their living." - James Agee
PARK RULES & REGULATIONS
1.) For the protection of our park and the safety of its users, the following are prohibited:
- No alcoholic beverages
- No open fires
- No hitting golf balls anywhere in the park
- No motorized vehicles in park
- No equestrian activity
2.) Per city ordinance, all animals must be maintained on a leash.
3.) Please be respectful of other trail users.
4.) Please help to keep our parks beautiful by disposing trash in proper receptacles.
5.) Hours - Open dawn to dusk unless otherwise posted.
