People deserve to be and feel safe in Knoxville. Public safety is a core, basic function of government, and this budget invests in our Police and Fire Departments and supports partnerships that address urgent public safety needs.
This year, the City of Knoxville will:
• Develop evidence-based, community-informed strategies to reduce homicides and save lives
• Launch CrimeStoppers to solve crimes, offering rewards for anonymous tips
• Expand the KPD Co-Response Team pairing behavioral-health specialists with crisis-trained officers
• Partner with Fulton High School to promote public safety career pathways
• Continue to innovate and improve Knoxville’s ability to respond to emergencies and address chronic stresses like mental health, addiction and poverty
• $1.9M for core Public Safety partners:
Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center, Metro
Drug Coalition, Family Justice Center, Animal Welfare
• $1M for violence interruption & prevention
• $500K for health & mental health partners
• $500K+ for partners providing safe places and enrichment programming for youth
Reimagining Public Safety with
the KPD Co-Response Team: By pairing behavioral-health
specialists with KPD
officers, the co-response
team is able to assess
individuals’ behavioral-health
needs in real time
and help connect those
individuals with immediate
access to services. |
