Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen awarded the department's Life Saving Award to Lt. Bob Wooldridge. Lt. Wooldridge has been with the Knoxville Police Department since November 1981.

Chief Owen said that on November 7, 2006, Lt. Wooldridge was attending the FBI LEEDA Command Class being hosted by the Knoxville Police Department. The class had attendees from law enforcement agencies throughout the country. Lt. Wooldridge and approximately 15 members of the class went to lunch at a North Knoxville restaurant. During lunch a member of the group, a Captain from the Dalton, GA Police Department, become choked on food.

Chief Owen said, "As the Captain started gasping for air, it became obvious that he was in dire need of assistance. Lt. Wooldridge immediately ran to his aid and applied the Heimlich maneuver. The food was dislodged enabling the victim to breath again."

Lt. Wooldridge's actions generated multiple positive comments from the various members of the class. The victim commented on his gratitude and appreciation for the Lieutenant's action in saving his life.

Chief Owen said, "Lt. Wooldridge's actions in this incident is only a reflection of the excellent professional image he always portrays as a member of the Knoxville Police Department."
Mayor Haslam said, "We commend Lt. Wooldridge for his quick and decisive action in helping a person in need."

Lt. Wooldridge will receive a signed certificate from the Mayor and Chief along with a free dinner from Ruby Tuesday Restaurant.
