Mayor's Council on Disability Issues Holding Mayoral Candidate Forum Aug. 10

Posted: 08/08/2011
The Mayor's Council on Disability Issues (CODI) is hosting a Mayoral Candidate Forum on Disability at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, in the City County Building's Large Assembly Room.

The public is invited to attend.

All five candidates will be participating in the hour-long forum where they will be able to discuss their views on topics impacting individuals with disabilities in our community.

The Mayor's Council on Disability Issues is an advisory group whose purpose is to provide direction and guidance to Mayor Daniel Brown and City Council on matters concerning individuals with disabilities. It seeks to promote communication and cooperation to remove barriers to full participation in society for people with a disability.

CODI currently has twenty members who are appointed by the mayor and approved by City Council. They serve three-year terms.

Sarah Helm, coordinator of the Disability-Careers Office at the University of Tennessee is the current chair of the group.

Stephanie Cook, the city's disability services coordinator, said CODI members don't want the forum to be perceived as a debate. Instead she said the event is designed to be an opportunity to learn about the candidates' ideas to address the needs of people with disabilities in our city.

For more information about the forum please contact Stephanie Cook at 865-215-2120.
