Next Tour de Fleur Set for July 9, 2011

Posted: 07/07/2011
The City of Knoxville and Knox County Parks and Recreation Departments will host a free 1.5-mile wildflower walk this Saturday, July 9, at 10 a.m. on Will Skelton Greenway as part of the Tour de Fleur series.

Walkers will meet at Ijams Nature Center and will be bussed to the Forks of the River Tennessee Wildlife Management Area, where acres of sunflower fields are in bloom.

Led by Lyn Bales, Ijams Nature Center naturalist, the walk will showcase varieties of wildflowers through wooded trails, in addition to the sunflower fields. This portion of Will Skelton Greenway is flat and therefore an easy walk. Participants are encouraged to wear hats and sunscreen, as the section showcasing the sunflower fields will be in direct sunlight.

All Tour de Fleur walks are held on Saturdays and will be led by a nature guide. Walks will either be on Will Skelton Greenway or Ten Mile Creek Greenway.
