Crane Work to Close One Block of Gay St. on Sunday Morning, Oct. 4

Posted: 09/28/2015
South Gay Street between Wall and Union avenues will be closed from 6 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Oct. 4, as a crane places an air-conditioning unit on the roof of the former JC Penney building. New businesses Babalu Tacos and Tapas and Maple Hall are preparing to open in the former department store building.

Knoxville Police Department officers will be posted at the one-block closure of Gay Street, between Union and Wall avenues. Officers also will provide an escort for the crane to and from the job site.

Access to the entrance and sidewalk near Mast General Store will be open, as will be the areas around the Phoenix building.
