Mayor Madeline Rogero and Fire Chief Stan Sharp recognized the heroic actions of a trio of firefighters with Engine Co. 11 on Thursday at the Knoxville Fire Department Training Center located at 3411 Vice Mayor Jack Sharp Rd.
Fire Officer Robert "Chip" Key Jr., Master Firefighter Ryan S. Reid and Firefighter Henry Bookhardt Jr. were each presented with awards naming them as Firefighter of the Third Quarter.
On Sept. 5, Engine Co. 11 was dispatched to a house fire on McCroskey Avenue, and Key and Bookhardt crawled down a smoke-filled hallway and forced entry through a locked door while Reid supplied them with water. The team pulled the woman to safety.
Firefighting is hard and dangerous work, requiring skill, training and teamwork. Congratulations to the Firefighters of the 3rd Quarter; the City and its residents are grateful to all our firefighters who keep us safe!
