Andrew Roberto was elected to represent the 2nd District on Knoxville City Council on November 7, 2017. Two years into his first term, the members of City Council elected Andrew to serve as Beer Board Chair from 2019-2021. On Beer Board, Andrew authored and implemented guidelines for server compliance plans assisting restaurants and bars in reimagining how their establishment would prevent underage beer service. During his time chairing Knoxville’s Beer Board, Andrew championed the creation of a Downtown Festival District, allowing beloved festivals like Rossini, Dogwood Arts, Hola, and St. Patrick’s Day to serve beer in a safe manner.
Andrew was re-elected to serve a second term on Knoxville City Council on November 2, 2021. After being sworn into his second term, the members of City Council elected Andrew to serve as Vice-Mayor from 2021 to 2023. During his term as Vice-Mayor, Andrew organized two mental health workshops, in 2022 and 2023, where City Council was joined by members of Knox County Commission and members of the Knox County delegation to the Tennessee General Assembly to consider opportunities to improve access to mental health services in our community. These efforts resulted in both Knoxville City Council and Knox County Commission passing resolutions requesting action by the Tennessee General Assembly and in 2024, it was announced that a study by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services determined there is a need for a state-run psychiatric hospital in Knoxville. In 2023, Roberto also organized Knoxville City Council’s first official visit to the Tennessee General Assembly in recent memory. Andrew will continue to serve as the 2nd District's representative on Knoxville City Council until his term ends in December 2025.
A Knoxville native, Andrew is a graduate of the Knox County public school system, Andrew graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in psychology. Andrew received his Juris Doctorate from the UT College of Law in 2002 and later served as a Workers’ Compensation Specialist with the Tennessee Department of Labor. Since 2008, Andrew has been a local attorney and became a partner with The Lawyers of Brown & Roberto. Prior to serving on City Council, Andrew served as a Knox County Election Commissioner from 2014-2017, where he worked to encourage voter registration and participation. Passionate about community, Andrew served on The Salvation Army of Knoxville's advisory board from 2012 to 2018, and as board chairman from 2015-2018. During his time on the advisory board, Andrew would frequently serve lunch at the soup kitchen and volunteer during the annual Red Kettle campaign. In recognition of his service, the organization presented him with their Partner in Mission Award in 2012. He was only the 33rd person nationwide to receive this honor. Andrew served on the Sertoma Center board from 2016 to 2018, and in 2014 he served on the executive committee of the Congressional Medal of Honor Convention held here in Knoxville. As a small business owner, Andrew has led his firm in partnering with Celebrate Recovery in North Knoxville, the Epilepsy Foundation of East Tennessee, and the Tennessee Veterans Business Association.
Andrew lives in Rocky Hill with his best friend and wife Sarah and their beloved dog Bear. Andrew's favorite and most cherished title is "Daddy" to two beautiful daughters, Kylie (who passed away in 2024) and Hannah who is an honors student at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, class of 2026.
