How did our City go green(sleeves) in 2022?
With our partners we launched two major projects to reduce the amounts of carbon and methane being produced locally and contributing to climate change.
The Knoxville Compost Pilot Project allows residents to bring their qualifying food scraps to a drop off bin in the Old City. Those scraps are then delivered to an industrial-sized composter located at Battlefield Farms, where the scraps become compost.
This process takes several months; the first batch of crowd-sourced compost is now enriching the soil of fall and winter crops at the non-profit community farm.

KUB Community Solar broke ground in May 2022.
This partnership between KUB, the City and TVA will provide homeowners, renters, and businesses the opportunity to subscribe to a portion of a 1 megawatt solar array. KUB invested $1.4 million to build the array, which will be placed on City of Knoxville property just off I-40.
