September 26, 2014 - KUB and its contractor, Garney Construction, will extend the closure a section of S. Central Street (between West Summit Hill Drive and Clinch Avenue) and Commerce Avenue (between State Street and S. Central Street) through Sunday, October 5, as work is completed on the Downtown Century II multiple utilities upgrade project.
Alternate routes include James White Parkway to Cumberland Avenue; E. Summit Hill Drive to S. Hall Of Fame Drive to E. Church Avenue. During this closure, the State Street Parking Garage should be entered and exited via State Street. S. Central Avenue continues to be bi-directional between Cumberland Avenue and Clinch Avenue to allow for access to parking behind First Presbyterian Church. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
Some night and weekend work may be required to meet project milestone dates. As work areas shift, follow up advisories will be issued.
Some listed closures may extend beyond the scheduled times depending on the conditions encountered during excavation and construction. Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place at each location to assist motorists traveling in these areas. Due to the ongoing presence of workers and equipment, motorists are advised to use extreme caution and expect temporary delays in these areas. More information on this and other KUB construction projects can be found at www.kub.org.
