Public Meeting April 22 for 700 Block of South Gay Streetscapes Plan

Posted: 04/14/2014
April 14, 2014 - The City's Office of Redevelopment will hold a public meeting on April 22 at 5:30 p.m. regarding the 700 Block of South Gay Streetscapes Plan.

The meeting will be held at the East Tennessee History Center, located at 601 S. Gay St.

Public input is sought as the start of work on the 700 Block of South Gay Street is scheduled for spring 2015.

The block has not been upgraded in 20 years; street medallions and sidewalks are in disrepair.

The Streetscapes work, which is estimated to cost more than $800,000, includes repairing sidewalks, planting trees, converting the street surface to concrete and rebuilding two medallions at Church and Clinch avenues, plus adding a new medallion at Cumberland Avenue.

The improvements will be consistent with other Streetscape projects along Gay Street.

Water, electric and communications utilities also will be upgraded on this block.
