The City of Knoxville will drop its lawsuit against KUB regarding the utility's operation of its wastewater system.
The City's lawsuit, filed in Knox County Circuit Court, covered many of the same issues contained in a Consent Decree filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court and agreed to by federal and state regulatory agencies, the City of Knoxville and KUB.
"The City's goal is to ensure an environmentally sound wastewater system, and the Consent Decree spells out how that will be accomplished by KUB with state and federal oversight," Mayor Bill Haslam said. "The withdrawal of the Knox County Circuit Court lawsuit avoids protracted and costly litigation over issues that are in the process of being resolved. All parties involved worked hard to resolve this litigation to the benefit of taxpayers and ratepayers."
