Mayor Bill Haslam and Citadel Broadcasting/Knoxville announced today a family-friendly New Year's Eve Celebration slated for World's Fair Park.
The free event will begin at 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 on the Clinch Avenue viaduct and conclude with fireworks and special effects provided by Pyro Shows at the stroke of midnight.
The alcohol-free party will also include live entertainment, children's activities, food vendors and plenty of coffee and hot chocolate.
"This will be a fun way for families to ring in the New Year in the heart of Knoxville," said Mayor Haslam. "I appreciate Citadel Broadcasting underwriting the cost of this event to create an enjoyable experience for families in East Tennessee."
Citadel's Knoxville radio stations will be providing entertainment. WIVK is sponsoring the appearance of country music recording artist Shelly Fairchild. WOKI and WYIL will also provide music. In addition, WIVK will broadcast live from the event and provide the countdown to midnight.
"We hope to make this New Year's Celebration an annual tradition for families in East Tennessee," said Mickey Dearstone, director of marketing for Citadel/Knoxville.
Parking downtown is free at the City's State Street and Locust Street garages weekday evenings and throughout the weekend.
