Papermill Road between Kingston Pike and Westfield Road will be closed for about 90 days beginning Monday, Nov. 8 to improve storm-water drainage and replace utilities in the area.
Construction work will include replacing corrugated metal pipes that run underneath the road with reinforced concrete pipes. The failure of a corrugated metal pipe earlier contributed to the failure and collapse of a parking lot and associated drainage problems.
The city is coordinating its work schedule with the Knoxville Utilities Board, which will replace a sanitary sewer line that runs along Papermill Road during the closure.
Traffic can access the Papermill Plaza shopping center via Kingston Pike on a temporary driveway near the Kingston Pike and Papermill Road intersection.
Access to the Mill Agent store and Bearden Chiropractic will be available from the east end of Papermill Road.
