Two replicas of Civil War-era cannons will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 at Fort Dickerson, a City of Knoxville park.
The dedication ceremony is among activities planned as part of the annual Living History Weekend, sponsored by the City of Knoxville and the Knoxville Civil War Round Table.
The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14 and includes battle reenactments, cannon firings, refreshments and other activities.
The Knoxville Civil War Round Table donated one of the cannon replicas, and the City of Knoxville matched the $15,500 contribution with the second. Made out of ductile iron, each cannon is a 3-inch ordinance rifle, known to be present at Fort Dickerson during the time of the Civil War.
"Living History Weekend is a great educational opportunity for families," said Mayor Bill Haslam. "I'm pleased the City of Knoxville partnered with the Knoxville Civil War Round Table to enhance the historical aspect of Fort Dickerson Park."
