The City of Knoxville and Prestige Cleaners are encouraging residents to recycle their hangers to help beautify the city's Dogwood trails with the planting of new trees.
Prestige Cleaners has agreed to donate 5 cents per hanger turned into one of their stores to the City to purchase and plant the trees."This campaign helps make Knoxville a better place in two ways - by keeping hangers out of the waste stream and raising money to plant flowering Dogwood trees that make springtime in our City so special," Mayor Bill Haslam said.
Eddie Mannis, president of Prestige Cleaners, is serving as co-chair of this year's Dogwood Arts Festival.
"One of the best things about this festival are the gorgeous Dogwood trails," Mannis noted. "It's important that we continue to plant Dogwood trees to ensure that generations to come will be able to enjoy the trails."Hangers will be accepted beginning Tuesday, Nov. 15 through Dec. 31 at Prestige's eight locations.
