The Downtown Design Guidelines steering committee will meet at noon July 26 at the UT Downtown Studio, located at 500 Gay St. The committee will review comments from the recent City Council workshop as well as the third public workshop held June 29.
The Metropolitan Planning Commission, in cooperation with the City of Knoxville, has drafted potential design guidelines for downtown, drawing on the area's unique qualities, what people find pleasing and what aspects of design should be enhanced over time. Several public workshops have been held since March.Urban design guidelines were recommended in the City of Knoxville's Downtown Improvement Strategy, which noted that other cities have used such guidelines to improve their downtown's aesthetics and pedestrian activity.
