A flag retirement ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 10 at the Knoxville Elks Lodge No. 160, located at 6000 Lonas Road.
The ceremony is part of the Flag Day program presented by the lodge beginning at 2 p.m. Flags that are no longer able to be flown will be placed on a ceremonial pyre, and set ablaze in honor of the Knoxville area men and women serving in the military and in and in memory of those who have sacrificed their lives in service to their country. Individuals may drop off worn flags before June 9 at City of Knoxville Recycling Centers or Knox County Convenience Centers.
Flags may also be taken to the offices of Knox County's Department of Engineering and Public Works, 205 W. Baxter Ave; Keep Knoxville Beautiful, 100 S. Gay St, Suite 103; or to either location of Allen Sign Co., 2408 Chapman Highway and 7501 Kingston Pike.
Flags may be dropped off at the Elks Lodge on the day of the event from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
